I had an amazing writing session yesterday!

I've been revising an older story lately, and I was very nervous to look back at some writing that's nearly fifteen years old at this point. 😅

I found myself staring at a scene I hadn't been happy with (even at the time). But instead of feeling anxious and frustrated with my former work, I was seeing it with new eyes. Inspired. Excited to breathe new life into it! 💕

The scene was reborn. Almost completely new, with just a bit of repurposed dialogue. (Which is funny, given the scene is about a character choosing a 'second life', and specifically references thinking of the moment as being reborn.) The scene explains the situation much better. There's more character expression, backstory hints, and foreshadowing. And beyond all that, it was easy. It was fun. It was newly meaningful.

I'm still a bit in shock over how well everything flowed. And how an older story is beginning to feel new again. I was afraid I would never be able to feel this connected to my older stories again. Even though they are important to The Timeline, I struggled to want to spend the energy needed to improve the core story that I had already finished and 'moved on' from, emotionally. But maybe there is still new meaning to be found in reviving these stories that were once so important to me.
